Special Tubes 60 x X mm
BTR120 Tubes for High-Stress Structural Applications
BTR120 is a premium high-strength steel tube specifically developed for applications where maximum strength, safety, and reliability are essential. This is not a standard structural tube, but a material designed for situations where performance and weight reduction cannot be compromised.
Through a quenched and tempered heat treatment process, BTR120 achieves exceptional mechanical properties. With a minimum yield strength of 800 MPa, a tensile strength of 1000–1300 MPa, and a minimum elongation of 12%, it offers an outstanding balance between strength and formability.
Its high strength-to-weight ratio makes BTR120 an excellent choice for motorsport, automotive engineering, chassis construction, roll cages, safety structures, and other heavily loaded applications where conventional steel reaches its limits.
Developed for Safety
BTR120 originated in the automotive industry. The material was developed for the Volvo SIPS® (Side Impact Protection System), an application where safety and reliability are critical.
Building on this foundation, the tube has also found its way into motorsport and other heavily loaded structures, including:
Trailing arms
Highly stressed chassis components
Safety structures
Constructions where strength and energy absorption must work together
Key Benefits
Extremely high strength
Excellent toughness despite its hardness
Predictable performance under extreme loads
Suitable for heavily loaded structural applications
BTR120 stands out because it combines exceptional strength with the ability to withstand dynamic loads and impact forces.
Not Intended for Bending Applications
Due to its high strength and heat treatment, BTR120 is primarily designed for structural applications where the tube is used in straight sections and subjected to structural loads.
While some users successfully bend the material using specialized knowledge, experience, and equipment, this remains a non-standard application. BTR120 is not a conventional tube for routine bending operations and requires a thorough understanding of the material's behavior.
A Material for Demanding Applications
Originally developed for safety systems and motorsport, BTR120 is now used in a wide range of demanding industries. Wherever extreme loads and maximum strength are essential, this tube delivers performance far beyond that of conventional steel grades.
BTR120: exceptional strength for applications where failure is not an option.
